How To Improve Galaxy S6 Battery Without Root (Reduce Battery Usage)

There are endless of tutorials on the internet which aim to improve the battery life of your Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. But if you pay close attention, you can see that most, if not all articles require root access in order to enhance the longevity of your device. Yes, root is required because you can flash custom kernels and ROMs which are optimized to deliver better performance without draining the entire battery juice.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 comes with a 2550 mAh battery while its brother comes with a slightly larger 2600 mAh battery. Both devices have noticeably smaller batteries compared to their predecessor, which had a juicy 2800 mAh battery.

Luckily, there are a few ways to improve battery life on the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge without root, custom ROM or kernel. The Samsung Galaxy S6 comes with a Super AMOLED display, unlike its competitors which have LCD displays. The advantage of an AMOLED display is that each pixel produces its own light. So when a dark image is displayed, pixels turn off completely. On a liquid-crystal display, the backlight continues to produce light, even if there is a dark image. What does this mean? It means less energy used from the AMOLED panel, and you can use this feature on your advantage.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge come with bright blue wallpapers. While they certainly look beautiful thanks to the AMOLED technology, they use huge amounts of battery from the phone. To reduce battery usage, replace the stock bright wallpaper with a darker one. If possible, with a pitch black image.

Once you have done that, go ahead and launch the Play Store and install Nova launcher. Nova is a much lighter launcher than TouchWiz and uses fewer resources. And finally, install Min Icon Pack. It is an icon pack with purely black and white icons to reduce battery usage.

To conclude, you need to do any of these three things:

  1. Replace stock Galaxy S6 wallpaper with a dark image.
  2. Install Nova launcher (link)
  3. Install Min Icon Pack (link)

Once you’ve followed all the steps, you should see less battery usage from the display on your Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 edge.
