Both of Sony’s flagship devices, the Sony Xperia Z3 and Sony Xperia Z3 Compact have started receiving the official Lollipop update. Sony has dragged its users for a long time but now everything is over. The Lollipop update for both of flagship devices didn’t come as a huge surprise for the simple fact that Sony actually showcased an Xperia Z3 unit during MWC 2015 which was running on an official stock Android 5.0 firmware.
This confirmed the fact that Sony was actually working on the update and was fixing last-minute bugs. Coming directly from the Sony official site, the 5.0 Lollipop will be hitting the Nordics and Baltics first and then it will eventually roll out globally.
The update is “Over The Air” which means you only need your phone, some free space and fast WiFi connection. To download the Lollipop update on your Soy Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact, head over to Settings, scroll all the way to the bottom to About Phone. There, tap on Software Updates and if the update has hit your phone, you will be able to install it. It is recommended to download the Lollipop firmware while connected to a WiFi connection because the update is too big in size and will exhaust your data if you use 3G or 4G.
This is a good day for all Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact users. But these are not the only Sony devices that will be blessed by the update. Sony has stated that all Xperia Z devices will be greeted with Android 5.0 including Xperia Z, Z1, Z1, and all Compact and Tablet variants.
