The Android 6.0 Marshmallow is slowly rolling out to all HTC One M9 devices. The new update offers performance optimizations and under-the-hood changes. The One M9 is the next device in line to receive the Marshmallow update after the older HTC One M9.
Now that you have finally updated to Marshmallow, you might be wondering if root is available. Well, thanks to Chainfire, root for HTC One M9 Marshmallow update is possible. Chainfire has updated SuperSU to version v2.66.
This version of SuperSU is capable of rooting the HTC One M9, even on the latest Android Marshmallow. In order to gain root, you need to install a custom recovery such as TWRP and then flash SuperSU.
How to install SuperSU and root HTC One M9 Marshmallow
TWRP or any other custom recovery is necessary to flash SuperSU. If you already have a custom recovery installed, then proceed with the installation below. If not, make sure to install TWRP and download SuperSU from the links below. Installing TWRP is very easy and flashing SuperSU is even easier.
Follow the instructions on the download page on how to install TWRP. Then, download SuperSU and move it from your PC to your phone.
- Turn off the phone.
- Press the volume down button and then press the power button. This will make the phone boot into bootloader mode.
- While in bootloader mode, use the volume buttons to highlight recovery and press the power button to select it.
- Now that you are in TWRP recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache.
- Go back to ‘Install’ and select the SuperSU V2.66 file. Swipe to the left to flash the file.
Once the installation process is finished, reboot your phone. That’s it. Your Marshmallow HTC One M9 is now rooted. If you have any doubts, you can download and use Root Checker from the Play Store.
