After a few weeks of waiting, TWRP, a popular custom recovery is now available for the Samsung Galaxy S6. Well, the Galaxy S6 has had TWRP since the beginning but only for Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Marshmallow, the new firmware changed the way the system works and developers had to make changes.
Now, TWRP is fully compatible with Samsung Galaxy S6 Marshmallow. The installation process is easy and you can easily do it, especially if you’ve updated to Marshmallow by flashing the firmware using Odin.
TWRP is a custom recovery which has more features and options than other recoveries. You can flash custom zip files, perform full Nandroid backups, enable ADB sideload and more. And you can install it on your Galaxy S6 if you think that Marshmallow is not enough and you need root.
How To Install TWRP Recovery on Galaxy S6 Marshmallow
As with TWRP for Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, you need Odin flashing tool to install TWRP on your Galaxy S6 Marshmallow. Additionally, you need the latest Samsung USB drivers installed.
There are the three things that you need the most. You need TWRP recovery of course, Odin to flash it and USB drivers so Odin can recognize your phone.
- Take your phone and turn it off. Once the phone turns off, press the home, power and volume down keys to go into download mode. Press the volume up button one more time to enter download mode.
- Connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable. If USB drivers are properly installed, Odin will recognize your phone.
- Extract the TWRP zip file to receive a .tar file.
- On Odin, click on AP and select the extracted file.
- Now click on Start.
Wait for Odin to flash TWRP on your Samsung Galaxy S6 Marshmallow. Once the process is finished, the phone will reboot. Now, turn the phone off again and press the volume up, home and power keys to go into recovery mode.
