Install Android 5.0.2 Lollipop on Verizon Droid Turbo (Root & No Wipe)

If you have been following the update list of Motorola, then you know that almost all flagship devices have been updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop including Moto X (2014 and 2013), Moto G (2013 & 2014) and even the low-end Moto G. Now it is time for Motorola to expand the list even more by adding other devices. One of these devices is the Verizon variant of the Droid Turbo, commonly known as Moto Maxx.

Moto Maxx is one of the best devices that Verizon has but it didn’t make a lot of noise because it was tied to that specific carrier. Some specifications include a 5.2 inch OLED touchscreen with a dense QHD display, the powerful Snapdragon 805 chipset which ensures smooth performance and a 21 MP camera which can record 4K videos.

This hardware is kept up and running thanks to a huge 3900 mAh. This battery can keep the phone going for more than a day on medium to high usage without a single problem. Released with KitKat, it is time for the Moto Maxx to get a bite of Lollipop.

The Verizon team has been fast with Lollipop updates rolling the firmware out to some of the most popular devices like the Samsung Galaxy S5. Even though the Moto Maxx is not as popular as the aforementioned device, there has been a huge request for Lollipop to come to this device.

If you are running on a stock unrooted Moto Maxx, you can easily install the latest version of Android. You have to go to Settings > About Phone > Software Updates, download the OTA zip file and install it. But if you are rooted, you will face a few problems. You will still receive the OTA notification but you will come across various errors if you try to install it.

If you have rooted your phone and you want to flash the latest Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update on the Moto Maxx (Droid Turbo) without performing a factory reset (wipe data), do not worry. A member has created a full detailed guide on how you can update to Lollipop with root access and without having to wipe data.

It has to do with downloading the OTA zip file but not installing it and editing a few files. Check out the detailed guide and let us know if you successfully managed to update your phone.
