Enable True Silent Mode on Lollipop With Xposed Module

Android 5.0 Lollipop is one of the biggest updates that this operating system has ever had. It introduces new elements to make the overall experience better. Lollipop did not only introduce new things. It also removed old features, one of them being the silent mode.

Take your Android phone, press the volume button at the minimum. The phone will vibrate to inform you that you have just activated the vibrate mode. When this mode is activated, there will be no sound when the phone receives notifications or calls. It will just vibrate instead.

If you press the volume down button one more time, it will switch to silent mode. When this mode is activated, the phone will not ring or vibrate. This is the best solution if you don’t want to get distracted.

If you have updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop, you have probably heard that the silent mode is no longer available. When you press the volume down button, the phone will go to vibrate mode but never to silent mode. This has been a heavily dissuaded topic lately as why Google decided to remove this feature, used by many Android users.

It is probably one of the most useful features that Android has, and Google decides to remove it without warning. Do not worry though! Nothing is impossible in the Android community. If Google decides to remove something, individual developers include it again.

This is the case with the silent mode. A recognized developer and contributor wasn’t happy with this decision made by Google. So he turned to the most popular mod for Android, Xposed, and created a module which brings back the silent mode on Lollipop.

The Xposed module is called True Silent Mode and does exactly what the name says. Here is a list of things that this module can do:

  • Enabled the silent mode found on Android 4.4 KitKat
  • Doesn’t interfere with the LED notification light
  • Keeps the alarms running
  • Makes apps and widgets to set up silent mode

Download and install True Silent Mode on Android 5.0 Lollipop

Note: This module is designed to work only on stock Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware and AOSP ROMs.

First of all, you have to make sure that you have Xposed framework installed. If not, download and install it using this guide.

Now, download True Silent Mode module and install it. Open “Xposed Installer”, go to “Modules”, activate the module and reboot your phone.

Now you can easily enable silent mode on your Lollipop device.
