Samsung Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge: Why should you buy it & why it sucks

Samsung just unveiled the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, two Samsung flagships for year 2016. It was everything we were expecting; similar design and a lot of new features. It was almost difficult to keep track of all the new features that come with the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.

We have a tradition here at NaldoTech about newly released Android flagships. We were about to do a “Samsung Galaxy S7: Why does it suck and why you shouldn’t buy it” article but we essentially didn’t have any real complaints about the device to write a full article.

If you missed the live stream, here are some of the best and most interesting features with the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. We won’t be covering the usual specs such as CPU, RAM and other specifications because they have been available for weeks. If you want to know the full spec list, check out this article:

So, let’s begin with some of the most interesting characteristics and features of the newly announced Galaxy S7.

 Always-on Display

This is something that will be useful for many people. Have you ever wanted to check the time while in a meeting but didn’t want to be rude? With the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge you can do so by simply having a glance at the phone’s screen.

Always-on Display is a new feature which basically keeps the screen always on. It shows the clock, messages and missed calls and other notifications. The background is black, minimizing the battery usage. The phone is smart too. It knows when it is face-down or inside a pocket. When it notices this, the screen turns off to save battery.

Waterproof (IP68)

You might say the Samsung Galaxy S5 was water-resistant too. Well, it was but Samsung sacrificed design for that feature. Also, the phone was quite ugly. There was a protective flap over the charging port which you had to open every time you wanted to charge the phone.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is another story. You can’t tell that it is waterproof when holding it. That is because Samsung has sealed the phone from the inside instead from the outside. This means you won’t have to worry about snapping the back cover or correctly closing the charging port cover.

MicroSD card support

The Galaxy S6 was heavily attacked for not having microSD card support. With the Galaxy S7, Samsung managed to find a way to implement a slot for microSD cards. The slot is inside the SIM tray for maximum space efficiency.

Camera (f/1.7 & bigger pixels)

As expected, the Samsung Galaxy S7 comes with a bigger camera sensor. This time around it is nearly flush with the phone. What makes us excited is the new aperture of f/1.7. This new f-stop should deliver much better photo quality in low-light. Also, the phone introduces a new feature called Dual Pixel. This allows for faster auto-focusing when recording videos or when taking still pictures.

Vulkan API

Samsung didn’t forget gamers. Thanks to a cooperation between Samsung, Google and a few other companies you get Vulkan API. It is four times faster than the traditional OpenGL and offers PC-like quality gaming experience.

Does it suck?

At the beginning we talked about the negative things of the Galaxy S7. Are any things there to make us say that the phone sucks? Well, only one thing and that has to be the battery. We were expecting a removable battery but with that design it is impossible to achieve such thing. But we are not even mad about this because the Galaxy S7 has a 3,000 mAh and the S7 edge has a 3,600 mAh battery which will make you forget about them being non-removable.
