The second generation of Moto X released in 2014 has received the first Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. This update doesn’t come as a surprise since Motorola works together with Google to provide the latest version of Android to Moto devices. There have been a few custom ROMs based on Marshmallow for the Moto X 2014 such as CyanogenMod 13, but now you can install the official update.
The official firmware released by Motorola for the Moto X 2014 comes with version 24.11.18.en.EU and it designed to be installed on Moto X XT1092 (victara_reteu). The update is already available over the air. You can go to the settings menu and check for a possible available OTA update.
If your phone is not eligible for the update yet, then we have the captured Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA file, which you can manually flash on your phone. If your Moto X is running on Android 5.1 Lollipop, then you can download the OTA capture and apply the update yourself.
How To Install Moto X Marshmallow OTA Capture
Before you proceed with the guide below, make sure that you have the latest update installed on your phone. Go to Settings > About Phone > Software Updates and check if any updates are available for installation. Next, your phone should be stock which means the guide below needs a stock recovery to work.
- Download OTA capture: (MotoX 6.0 OTA 24.11.18.en.EU.zip)
Step 1. Download the Marshmallow OTA capture from the link above and transfer the file from your computer to your Motorola Moto X.
Step 2. Press and hold the power button of your phone to power it off.
Step 3. Now boot into recovery mode. Press the power button and then immediately press and hold the volume down key. This will put the phone in recovery mode.
Step 4. Select ‘Apply updates from phone’s storage’ using the volume keys and select the downloaded zip file from the link above by pressing the power button. Install the file.
Wait for the process to finish and reboot your phone. Your Moto X will boot into stock Android 6.0 Marshmallow with all apps and data intact.
