Every Android smartphone has the option to set a security lock screen. It can be a PIN code, password or even a pattern. These are excellent ways to keep your phone secure and locked. But what happens when you forget the password? If you insert the wrong code multiple times, the phone will lock itself and will not allow you to make any more attempts. Now, you can access your phone by signing in to your Google account. But if your phone is not connected to the internet, you are out of luck.

If you have forgotten the pass code of your Android phone, there is a way for you to remove it and gain access to your phone one more time. The only issue is that all installed applications will be deleted, but this is a price you have to pay.

Every Android phone comes with a stock recovery. To boot into recovery, you power off the phone and use the usual button combination. It is different for each device. There are some options in recovery such as ‘Apply Updates’ and ‘Wipe data/factory’ reset. We need the second option. This wipes data on your phone and removes the security lock screen.

This is a universal method and works on all Android devices, be it a Samsung Galaxy S6, S5, Note 5, Note 4, Google Nexus 6, Nexus 5, LG G4, G3, Xperia Z5, Z4, Moto G, Moto X and even older devices. This method works for as long as your phone has a recovery.

  1. Grab your phone and turn it off.
  2. Go into recovery mode. There are different ways for different phones. On Galaxy devices, you press and hold the power, home and volume up keys at the same time.
  3. Once in recovery, using the volume buttons highlight ‘Wipe data/factory reset’ and select it by pressing the power button.
  4. This will factory reset your phone.

Now reboot your Android phone. You will see that the security lock screen is gone.
